The stepping stones across Hood Brook offer the quickest shortcut to the ruins of Green’s Mill and the nearby waterfalls. However, they can become slippery when wet and are sometimes submerged during high flow. In such conditions, a safer, though longer, alternative is the footbridge approximately 250 metres downstream to the south.

Some big rocks in the Brook make a perfect place to sit down "in" the water and have a break on the hike (fairly steep up/down) along Hood Brook between Hathersage and Stanage Edge.
