Like no other, the majestic Sint-Amandskerk dominates the huge Geelse market square. Its impressive baroque wood interior and the beautiful organ are just a few of the many eye-catchers on the inside of the church.

A guided climb via narrow spiral staircases leads you to just above the bells of St. Amand's Church. The tower of almost 60 meters high is literally the pinnacle of the Geelse Markt and surroundings.

This beautiful church is still used for the weekly masses.

Right in the center on the Markt is the majestic Sint-Amandskerk. This church was built in the period 1490-1531 after the previous church building was destroyed by a fire. Only the lower part of the tower and part of the southern aisle have been preserved.

The Sint-Amandskerk is, as the name suggests, dedicated to Amandus, the patron saint of pharmacists. The Brabant Gothic and the Kempen Brick Gothic are the two styles that frequently appear in the church. The Brabant Gothic style can be found in the tower and part of the southern aisle. The nave, the choir and the interior are characterized by the Kempen brick Gothic. Much of the interior, including the church organ, pulpit and choir stalls, can be traced back to the 18th century. The nearly 60 meters high tower that used to serve as aldermen's chamber and the belfry draw attention to itself. If you take the trouble to climb the narrow spiral staircases, you will be rewarded with a fantastic panoramic view of Geel.
