Rain or shine, always a fun pastime with the grandchildren to look for Gnomes. We have successfully traveled many times with the grandchildren to the Kabouterberg in Kasterlee.
Active gnomes are said to still live in this piece of nature, located on the Kempen ridge. It is a play paradise for little ones and parents. Grandparents can go back to their own childhood. It is best to start the gnome search at the Gnome information house, located in the Kabouterstraat.
You can easily park here on the street side. Just another little puddle? Toilets are provided for young and old. You can also have a picnic here.
The Kabouterberg is freely accessible. Little legs can easily climb the ridge along a marked trail. For strollers there is a parallel, lower, easier alternative route. Parents or grandparents with the greatest detective skills and/or imagination should follow their children/grandchildren. Just romp around in nature and be quiet every now and then because you may have heard gnome rustling... exciting!
At certain points the gnome paths come together again. There are fun challenges for the little ones along the way, such as solving riddles or climbing aerial roots. Lack of imagination? You can also join a Gnome Storyteller every afternoon during the school holidays from 1:30 PM for a small contribution of €3.50 per child. Reservations are not necessary. One of the parents or grandparents must come along on the adventure, but they can enjoy the stories and children's fantasy for FREE.
Ultimately, the gnome search ends at a large sand dune or sand pan where you can relax on a bench. The detectives can build camps here to their heart's content on rolls of the sand dune. If there is a rain shower, no problem, here you can take shelter from the raindrops.
