A first ring wall around the city was built between 1160 and 1220, the main expansion took place after 1415. While a closed ring protected the inner city, diaphragm or spur walls secured the alluvial land or the gravel. Parts of the northern city wall have been preserved. However, not in full height, so the broken off parts with battlement walks.
