The way is indeed paved, but "all weather".

The Franzosenweg (Frenchman's Path) is one of the most beautiful walking trails in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. It winds its way for 3,734 meters along the shores of Lake Schwerin, from the castle gardens to Zippendorf Beach (perfect for swimming in the summer!), offering plenty for strollers: excellent views of the imposing Schwerin Castle, numerous places to stop for refreshments, from small cafés to upscale restaurants, and a truly special atmosphere.

The castle towers reflected in the water, the magnificent townhouses along the second third of the route, and the imposing ruins of the former spa hotel at the end of the path give you the feeling of strolling through a Parisian park.

The Franzosenweg got its name during the Franco-Prussian War (1870/71). The military conflict brought French prisoners of war to Schwerin, who were forced to build a path along Lake Schwerin in 1870: the Franzosenweg.

The Franzosenweg is a wide, paved path located directly on the shore of Lake Schwerin. It offers fantastic views of the lake.

There is plenty of space for both cyclists and pedestrians. It can get quite busy on sunny days.
