Like the younger lower mill, the upper mill, which has existed since the Middle Ages and is located on the arch of the Wetter, belonged to the count or prince. Together with the old brewery, it formed a group of buildings in front of the Obertor north of the now-vanished Schwanensee, which gave the entrance to the city additional flank protection.
Today's main building with a baroque mansard roof was not built until 1768, according to the dating.
