The three columns of thundering Jupiter were recreated at a scale of 1:4 from the temple ruins in the Roman Forum in Rome. Originally, the three columns were equipped with Corinthian capitals and supported an architrave with a triglyph frieze.

Today, only the shaft of the eastern column remains. The other two lie in ruins on the ground. Ludwig Uhland is said to have been inspired by this scene in the summer of 1814 to write his ballad "The Singer's Curse":
"Even a tall column testifies to vanished splendor; even this one, already shattered, can collapse overnight."
