Hiking Highlight
The lake next to the wonderfully small, cute and cozy old town of Alt-Kaster serves as a recreational area and is a wonderful place to sit down, "get away" and relax! Try it ;-)

The special thing about this lake is the location. There are many stories about this area. One of them is that of the Epprather Werewolf, who was active in the Middle Ages and was caught nearby. In addition, here some national tourist trails lead past. There are also prepared running routes that lead past the path. The historic town of Alt-Kaster is definitely worth a visit. If you still have some time, you can also include the Kasterer Höhe in the hike. Near the lake is also a very nice children's playground. Very nice for the little ones to have a break there.

Easy, leisurely hiking trail. If you hike on the west side of the lake you have a wonderful view of the lake. The east side is wooded. During the week we were the only guests in Alt-Kaster. Nice medieval place. For the stay with a hike around the lake (approx. 2.5 km), a leisurely stop should be planned for 3 hours

Through the creation of an approximately 8 hectare forest area, the Kasterer Höhe, as well as an embedded lake, the Kasterer See, an important local recreation area has been created here, which contributes to the fact that Bedburg has remained a city in the green.
The lake with a maximum length of 1000 m and a width of 125 m offers ideal conditions for observation walks for the numerous water birds that have settled here.

The local recreation area, which is directly adjacent to the historic center of Alt-Kaster, was created through extensive recultivation measures in the course of lignite mining in this region.
Through the creation of an approximately 8 hectare forest area, the Kasterer Höhe, as well as an embedded lake, the Kasterer See, a significant local recreation area has been created here, which contributes to the fact that Bedburg has remained a city in the green.
The Mühlenerft feeds and laps the Kasterer See, which was built in the area of the former Frimmersdorf opencast mine and completed in 1984. The lake is located on a forest island in which the endangered elm has been replanted in large numbers as a particularly typical type of hardwood floodplain forests.
The Kasterer See is designed in such a way that it allows various uses. While the south-west bank is used for local recreation, the east bank is largely inaccessible and reserved for nature. There are numerous wetlands and nesting sites for water birds. The lake with a maximum length of 1000 m and a width of 125 m offers ideal conditions for observation walks.

Nice little lake with numerous paths around it. There are several nice hiking routes of different lengths. Located directly at the historic center of Alt-Kaster. There are basically also places to stop for refreshments, e.g. B. with beer garden in Danielshof.

"... Finally we reach the forest again and soon we see the Kasterer See. This idyllic local recreation area is a positive effect from the recultivation measures of the opencast mine ...."

Historically well-preserved place, absolutely worth seeing. Hike on recultivated soil is also historically interesting.

When all the tadpoles have developed into frogs, there has to be a huge concert ;-)

The lap along the lake is quite calm. The paths are almost too well developed, but they are also accessible to everyone who is a little less safe on foot.
