The church dates from 1137-1450 and is one of the first buildings in Brabant to be built in High Gothic style. It is built with three types of stone:

iron sandstone from the local quarries, white limestone from Gobertingen and brick.

These alternating layers are also called bacon layers. On top of the 85 m high westertoren you see a truncated pyramid with an apple, a

lantern and a pear. It is the oldest preserved example of such a tower in Belgium. A visit to the Westertoren is a unique experience. At the very top, after a climb of 200 steps, you reach the third floor

impressive Peace Carillon. The 51 bells each have a unique decoration.

Don't forget during your visit: the richly decorated 16th century rood screen with its magnificent group of sculptures, the Triumphal Cross and the beautifully sculpted

choir stalls to admire.

The monumental Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekerk was built in Demergotiek. In the church interior, the brown-red iron sandstone provides a warm cosiness.
