A church in Oberkrüchten appears as an independent parish as early as 1400; it was probably originally a branch of the church in Niederkrüchten. A chapel built in the same style stood on the site of today's church. The present church is a single-nave baroque building from the end of the 17th century with a late-Gothic chancel and a modern western tower (1901). The late Gothic chancel in its present form dates from the 15th century. In a fire in 1675, the chancel was preserved. In 1678 the nave was built. As early as 1898, the church tower showed the first signs of a danger of collapsing. So it was demolished in 1901 and a new tower was built according to the plans of the building councilor Daniels. When the tower was rebuilt, a holy water font with the year 1901 was walled in at the entrance to the church.
On this occasion, a holy water vessel dating from 1698 was placed on the right side of the entrance. The church has been renovated several times over the years. In the 1990s the church was completely renovated. The foundations were drained and the nave and tower were newly slated. With the subsequent interior renovation, the church received its current appearance.
