At the time, Durbuy, the smallest city in the world, was surrounded by the Ourthe.
It is the Recollects sisters who in 1725 ordered that the meander around the city be drained in order to have more grounds and for hygienic reasons.
The meander explains the existence of the "Vieux Pont" (old bridge).
In the past, what is now the "Place aux Foires" was under water. Then the water ran past the wall of the Recollects and further along the foot of the Antclinale.

Now the old meander is full of steel carriages that stroll around the old center. Numerous eateries were built on the old meander bank.
