The lake is an old granite quarry whose exploitation ended in the early 1960s. The lake was only created after the work was finished because pumping out was then stopped.
There is a gigantic tree stump next to the lake (see photo). What dimensions the tree must have had!

A few hundred meters from the Thannenkirch exit, parking lot (Notre-Dame des Bois) is the old Wurzel granite quarry. Pleasant resting site during a walk around Thannenkirch or for a picnic. Also have the different species of wood from our Alsatian forests.

Very picturesque little lake in an old quarry. there are a few benches from which you can relax and let the surroundings work its magic. A few minutes from the eastern end of Thannenkirch.
