Lebrade Church

The church was first mentioned in 1240. Today, its core is a Baroque hall building, built between 1699 and 1700 by order of the Danish King Christian V, incorporating the north wall of its Romanesque predecessor. The original painting, in acanthus ornamentation modeled on the Rendsburg Christ Church, was renewed in rocaille forms in 1758 under the patronage of the Rixdorf church, Count Wulf Hinrich von Baudissin. After being plastered over in 1830, the Rococo decoration was exposed and restored between 1986 and 1988.

The exterior was redesigned in Neo-Gothic style between 1873 and 1874 by the Kiel architect Heinrich Moldenschardt. At the same time, the striking west tower was added, replacing an earlier wooden bell tower.
