The De Pauwhof country estate was created in 1910 when the estate of the late Princess Marie of the Netherlands was settled. The site had been part of her De Pauw estate. The buyer of this part of the estate was the Overvoorde-Gordon couple from Leiden. The Overvoordes had a country house built in 1912 by the architect Joseph Cuypers.
