Friedrich Steinberg, Herrmann & Co. Hat Factory (Mendelsohn Hall)

The former hat factory Friedrich Steinberg, Herrmann & Co. is an expressionist industrial building in Luckenwalde. As one of the most important buildings of Erich Mendelsohn and "incunabulum of modern industrial architecture", it is a listed building. The construction of the former hat factory on Industriestraße 2 is known today as "Mendelsohnhalle". In the hat factory, hat stumps were made from dyed wool felt, which were then processed into hats ready for sale in the Steinberg and Hermann factories in Luckenwalde.
The building with the trapezoidal roof housed the dye works. Due to the roof construction, the toxic fumes were able to escape upwards, supported by fans.
