The Church of Santa Maria del Suffragio is a Catholic place of worship in the city of Ravenna, overlooking the central Piazza del Popolo.

The Church of Santa Maria del Suffragio is located on Via Serafino Ferruzzi, corner of Via Armando Diaz, at the eastern end of Piazza del Popolo. The façade, made of Istrian stone, has two orders and its compositional syntax is reminiscent of that created by Carlo Fontana in Rome for the church of San Marcello al Corso. In the lower level there are three portals interspersed with pilasters. Two volutes, on the sides of which are two statues representing justice and peace, act as a link between the lower and the higher order. The latter, narrower and triangular at the top closed by a tympanum, an oval medallion in the center, in which the liberation of souls from Purgatory is depicted in bas - relief, a work, - as well as the statues - by the Ravenna sculptors Giovanni and Celio Toschini.

Behind the dome there is a small square bell tower with three bells, which is clearly visible from Piazza Luigi Einaudi.

The interior of the church is octagonal, with a chapel on each side. As soon as you enter, two of the eight stucco statues that adorn the interior of the church are located in niches and represent faith (left) and charity (right) by Antonio Martinetti.

The second chapel on the right is dedicated to San Vitale, depicted in the sculpture above the altar, the work of Giovanni Toschini. In the side niches inside the chapel are the stucco statues of San Filippo Neri (left) and San Vitale (right).

The third chapel on the right is dedicated to the crucifix and decorated with scenes and instruments of the Passion in stucco by Antonio Martinetti.

The chapel opposite the entrance houses the high altar. On the back wall, in a rich polychrome marble frame with a medallion with the inscription "Quasi aurora consurgens" on top, is the picture of the birth of Mary, a work by Andrea Barbiani. Below are the stalls of the wooden choir of the Church of San Giovanni Evangelista. The figures of four prophets (David, Solomon, Daniel and Isaiah) adorn the pendentives of the dome, in the middle of which there is a medallion with the souls of purgatory. On the sides, two choirs house the organ pipes, flanked by two niches with the stucco statues of Justice (left) and Peace (right).

The second chapel to the left of the entrance houses the marble group of the Pietà, formerly in San Vitale, by Giovanni Toschini. The stucco statues of San Gregorio Magno (right) and Sant'Apollinare (left) occupy the side niches of the chapel.

The pipe organ Mascioni opus 887, built in 1967, is located on the two choirs on the side walls of the apse.

The instrument is electrically driven and has a console with two keyboards of 61 notes each and a concave-radial pedal of 32 notes, which is located in the floor apse behind the main altar.

The construction work on the church began in 1701 at the behest of the Confraternity of the Beata Vergine dei Suffragi and ended in 1728.
