The forest chapel has a small visitor's book in which you can write down your own impressions and leave them for others. So if you have taken a little time for your own short retreat, you can leave a few good wishes behind.

A copper roll was walled into the foundation under the altar, which contains records of the building's history, but also the names of the donors.

According to ancient records, the original forest chapel at this point is said to have been erected by believers around 1804, shortly after the secularization of the monastery, to avert the then famine. However, this is surprising in that just at this time due to the official instructions all field bands should be eliminated. In the chapel was initially a picture of grace, to which the troubled people made pilgrimages. Many votive offerings were an expression of gratitude for the prayer hearings. As the first chapel was painted red, it was generally called the "Red Chapel". Over the decades, wind and weather gnawed at the small sanctuary, so that probably already in 1864 and again in the summer of 1939 decided to a thorough renovation. The care in the 1930s was in the hands of Felix Zintl and before him with Michael Lehner. During the repair in 1939 Zintl was supported by Michael Güntner, Georg White, Franz Josef Ernstberger and Karl Preisinger. The cost of the material had donated quite a few benefactors. The inauguration on August 6, 1939 was carried out by the Waldsassen city pastor Josef Wiesnet.
