The Westerholt colliery was a hard coal mine in the area of the city limits from the eponymous Herten-Westerholt to Gelsenkirchen-Hassel, with shaft 1 standing exactly on the border, shaft 2 in Hassel and shaft 3 in Westerholt. There is a small lake in the middle. Benches near the shore allow for a little break with a view of the water. In the western part, a high hill invites you to climb up the zigzag paths and see the park from above. It is not only from there that the large spoil tip Oberscholven with its two wind turbines can be seen, the highest tailings tip in the Ruhr area. It stands out from many locations in the park behind the Hassel houses when looking west. A skater park will be added near this lookout hill.
