The fountain was built in honor of J. Ringelnatz, the city's most famous poet. In the middle is a portrait of the poet, and around it are frescoes of his stories.

The bronze reliefs, interrupted by water-spouting masks, refer to the lyrical work of Joachim Ringelnatz, its apparent contradictions, the crude comic and the deeply sensitive. 4 sandstone gargoyles illustrate states between laughing and crying, the four reliefs, each forming two groups, illustrate the many facets of the poet.
