From the Porto do Comprido, the whalers went on their whaling tours before the Capelinho erupted. An old lava flow had formed a natural harbor here. Today a bathing area has been set up here. However, the waves were so high today that bathing was not advisable at this point.

Stunning coastal cliffs and surf on the volcanic rock coast. Nice view. Parking/return only.
The lighthouse is still buried in lava ash up to the 1st floor. The rest of the building is a museum.
