The memorial stone is intended to commemorate the customs station, as three domains came together at this intersection. We can read about Ritterstein, namely the area of the Electoral Palatinate, the Diocese of Speyer and the Duchy of Zweibrücken.
After the French Revolution in 1789, the territories were dissolved.
