Wood Stop Am Zollstock

The old hut at the "Am Zollstock" trail spider was demolished and a beautiful new hut made of Keschte wood was erected. The ascent to the hut is via huge federal sandstone.

There used to be a trade route here between the Hohenberg and the Förlenberg, because there was a customs station here around 1786. This is where the dominions of the Electoral Palatinate, the Bishopric of Speyer and the Duchy of Zweibrücken met. With the dissolution of the dominions, the customs station was also dissolved after only three years by the French Revolution. A memorial stone from 1986 still bears witness to the customs station.

The old shelter hut at the "Am Zollstock" crossroads was replaced in October 2021 with this chestnut "Wood Stop." Behind it are three wooden "hammocks."
The information board explains the sustainable construction method."The Wood Stop is made of sweet chestnut wood, which has previously been rarely used for this purpose. The Zollinger roof saves 30 to 40 percent of building materials compared to other roof truss and hall roof structures made of glued laminated timber."
