A real monument of mechanical engineering. I'm excited.

The last active steam locomotive 043 196-5 of the Deutsche Bundesbahn has been in Salzbergen since August 9, 1978, right next to the station. A shape signal and a water crane complement the technical monument, which is covered.

The steam locomotive was built in 1942 by Krupp with the serial number 2705 as a class 44 freight steam locomotive with the road number 44 1203. In December 1973 the conversion to oil firing and the number change to 043 196-5 took place. The last deployment took place on October 26, 1977 in Rheine. Three days earlier, the locomotive made a special trip from Rheine to Emden on the Emsland line. The municipality of Salzbergen bought the locomotive four days after it was taken out of service.

The last decommissioned steam locomotive 043 196-5 of the Deutsche Bundesbahn has been standing in front of the station since September 9, 1978. It was built by Krupp in Essen in 1942 and last operated on the Emden – Rheine route in 1977.

When you stand in front of it, you first see how big such a locomotive is. You're not allowed on it, but it's also very impressive.
