The representative half-timbered house in Rathausgasse, adorned with a late Gothic stepped gable, was the center of the bourgeois community for centuries. Goods were offered for sale on market days on the high ground floor, and on the floor above the councilors met or the hall was used for festivities.

It is still used for meetings today, and the city museum named after the local historian Karl Heuson found a suitable setting in the other rooms.
