The Saxon Post Miles Column is an impressive testimony to times gone by. Built in the 18th century, the column functioned as a signpost and distance indicator for travelers on the mail coach routes of the time. Made of robust sandstone, the column is about 4.5 meters high and adorned with a stylized sphere with the coat of arms of Electoral Saxony on the top. Decorated with finely worked inscriptions and numbers, it provides information about the distances to other important places in the region. The Electoral Saxon Post Milestone Column in Nossen is a wonderful example of the historical importance of the postal system in Saxony and an important cultural and historical sight in the city.
