It is the only surviving of two original plague columns in Bratislava and today stands prominently on the Danube promenade, near the Slovak National Uprising Bridge (Most SNP) and St. Martin's Cathedral. The column features typical Baroque elements such as figures of saints and a depiction of the Virgin Mary at the top – a classic motif for plague memorials in Central Europe.

The Plague Column was erected in 1713 by the sculptor Jozef Sartory and commemorates the end of the plague.

Rybné námestie (German: Fischplatz, Hungarian: Hál-tér) is a square outside the historic city walls. After a plague epidemic raged in the city of Bratislava in 1713 and claimed 3,860 lives, two plague columns were erected, one of which still stands [here] today. [...]
As the regulation of the Danube progressed in the 19th century, the bank moved further away from the square. [...]
The late 1960s and early 1970s marked a serious intervention in the image of the square. With the construction of the new bridge of the Slovak National Uprising, large parts of the square and its surroundings disappeared, including the building of the municipal brewery and the synagogue. Since then, only a plague column and two town houses remain at the meeting point with Hviezdoslavovo námestie and Pánska Street.
