    Ganymede Fountain, Bratislava / Pressburg
This fountain was created in 1888 by V. Tilgner from Bratislava (he also created the putti figures on the opera house next door).
The fountain depicts figures from ancient mythology: an eagle carries the young Ganymede to Olympus on the orders of the deity Dia so that he can serve the gods there.
On the upper part of the middle basin there are sculptures of water creatures, below the central column is surrounded by children's figures holding four different species of fish from the Danube - carp, catfish, pikeperch and pike. The water jumps into the basin from the fish's mouths. The figures in the fountain were cast by the A.M. Beschorner company from Budapest.

A fountain with many small special features that you might not even notice at first glance.

The eastern side of Hviezdoslav Square is bordered by the opera house of the Slovak National Theatre, built in 1885/86. The elaborately designed façade in the neo-renaissance style is crowned by a group of sculptures symbolising Thalia, the muse of the theatre. On the square in front of it is the Ganymede fountain. Ganymede was famously carried to Olympus by an eagle at the behest of Zeus, where he was to serve the gods. He does not seem unhappy about it.
