In the Vallée des Éclusiers there were 17 locks over only 3.8 km to get up the narrow valley of the Zorn. The Saint-Louis/Arzviller ship lift, which opened in 1969, has made this section obsolete, so that the old canal section has dried up and in part gives the impression of a lost place. However, some of the old lock houses are inhabited and lovingly restored, and there are also numerous information boards.

Road cycling

A very beautiful cycle path along an impressive monument to the history of technology. To overcome the difference in elevation, 17 locks were built into the canal. Each of these 17 locks had its own lockkeeper. The charming lockkeeper's houses that line the canal give an idea of the comfortable, prosperous lives the lockkeepers led.
