Saint-Pierre Church is a Catholic religious building, located at 'Porte de Trèves' in Bastogne, Belgium. Dating back to the 9th century in its oldest parts, the church is in Gothic style (16th century). This parish church is the oldest and most important of the two churches in the city of Bastogne, Belgium.
An old document, dating from 893, already mentions a place of worship in Bastogne. The first church was certainly in Romanesque style. Remains of it remain, such as the squat square bell tower - 20 meters high by 11 meters sideways - with walls two meters thick.
During a renovation and extension in the sixteenth century, however, it received a slightly Gothic appearance. Restructured into a hall church in which the bell tower is integrated, it therefore appears less massive. The polychrome decoration of the vault dates from 1536. The church would have been visited by Charles V at that time.
The church has been restored several times, the last major restoration dating from the years following World War II, as it was badly damaged during the Battle of the Bulge.
