The Wingertsbergwand near Mendig is something like a geological showcase into the past. Nowhere else was the eruption of the Laacher See volcano 13,000 years ago - the most powerful eruption in all of recent geological history in Central Europe - immortalized more impressively.
The Wingertsbergwand is a 50m high, steep mountain face. It gives visible information about the eruptions of the volcanoes in the area around the Laacher See. The different layers of the deposits of the Wingertsberg and Eppelsberg volcanoes can be clearly seen.
