The Wawel Castle in Kraków in southern Poland is located on the rocky hill of the same name a good 25m above the Vistula. The castle complex on Wawel Hill used to be the residence of the Polish kings in Kraków and, together with Kraków's Old Town, has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1978.
