The "Magdeburg hemispheres" have been known in physics for several centuries. Otto von Guericke (1602 to 1686) used them to demonstrate the - actually invisible - phenomena of air pressure and vacuum. Here we encounter a work of art in the form of a (world) globe, on the upper end of which the eponymous "time counter" has taken its place.
