The statue of Peter Wessel Tordenskjold has stood in the middle of the pedestrian zone in Frederikshavn, Denmark, since 1990. The Danish-Norwegian naval hero was honored with a 1.87 meter high bronze sculpture on the occasion of his 300th birthday.
Tordenskjold, originally born in Trondheim, Norway, joined the Danish Navy in 1704 and became known for his boldness and bravery.
King Frederick IV ennobled him in 1716.

Peter Wessel Tordenskjold (1690-1720) was a Danish-Norwegian naval officer during the Great Northern War. His daring and skill brought him successes in several sea battles against the Swedish fleet and helped him to a quick rise and in 1716 to a title of nobility. Shortly after the end of the war, he died in a duel against a Swedish officer.
