Venetian palazzo destroyed in bombing by the Luftwaffe just prior to British evacuation of Chania. The Luftwaffe avoided bombing the immediate harbour front which they wanted to preserve for their own use. The harbour itself was full of sunk wrecks.

Beautiful facade remains, with the building behind destroyed.

The German paratroopers and mountain divisions used captured British Bofors anti aircraft guns as standard artillery (in the same way they used their own 88mm A.A., particularly in anti tank role) but this appears to be aerial bomb or consequential fire damage.

Nice, friendly cafe immediately across the street. Nice place to sit and watch the world go by.
