Oldest district of Granada with a strong Moorish influence. Narrow alleys with bumpy pavement lead to the large, lively square with a breathtaking view of the Alhambra on the opposite side.

It is located in front of the Hermitage of San Miguel Alto, on the Cerro de San Miguel. It is the highest viewpoint in Granada and from it you can see a wide panoramic view of the city and La Vega, the Albaicín and its walls, the Alhambra and Sierra Nevada.

From the 13th, 14th and 15th centuries, the fortress became a citadel with high walls and defensive towers, which houses two main areas: the military area or Alcazaba, headquarters of the royal guard, and the medina or palatine city, where the famous Nasrid Palaces and the remains of the houses of nobles and commoners who lived there. The Palace of Carlos V, (which was built after the capture of the city in 1492 by the Catholic Monarchs), is also in the medina.
