It is of Muslim origin, from whose time it preserves remains in the second interior body. Its name derives from the Arabic word Bab-Shagra, which means “Door of the Sagra”. It was completely rebuilt under the reigns of Carlos V and Felipe II, according to the plans of Alonso de Covarrubias. It is formed by two bodies, between which a parade ground is inserted.

A day visiting the UNESCO rated hilltop city of Toledo with its cathedral and Alcazar. To be honest though whoever thought of building a cathedral at the top of a 500m hill and the car park at the bottom needs speaking to. At least they put in escalators all the way to the top though (honest 🤷). Stunning, stunning place.World Heritage Sites.
