The origins of the church point to the year 1220. Around this time work began on the construction of a massive west transept with two identical spiers. They were quite a bit taller and slimmer than those visible today. They were destroyed by a series of devastating city fires and were given their current form during reconstruction. The Gothic structure of the church with the beautiful tape measure works, two attached stair towers and a wonderfully structured display gable to the east has remained almost unchanged.
