A distinctive landmark of the town of Gransee is the parish church of St. Marien with its two towers. It was built between the mid-13th century and 1520. The three-aisled, seven-bay brick hall church has survived several fires and the Thirty Years' War. "What sets this church apart, unrivaled by any in the county, is its prolific use of the four-leaf clover," says Fontane.
A special feature are the two church towers: one tower is made of wood, the other of stone. In the stone tower are the "four bells with the harmonious ringing" as Fontane said, visitors can climb it and see the city from a new perspective.

Judging by the church, Granse was an important trading post and a prosperous place.
