The Kupferhammer lock is one of a total of twelve listed locks in the Finow Canal, which compensate for a height difference of 36 meters over a length of almost 30 kilometers. At the height of the former copper hammer, the lock of the same name was built when the Finow Canal was first built in 1620. The current lock was completed as a new building in 1875.
