One of Saarbrücken's best-known monuments is located in the Staden park: the monument to the Uhlan Regiment "Grand Duke Friedrich von Baden" (Rhenish) No. 7. It bears the simple inscription:

"In memory of the faithful watch of the 7th Uhlan Regiment 1870"

The monument's original place was on today's Castle Square. The unveiling took place on June 1, 1913 in front of former war veterans in a ceremony. The monument was first moved to the corner of Mainzer and Hellwigstraße in 1938 during the redesign of the Schlossplatz. It was dismantled there in 1947 by order of the French military government. Actually, it was supposed to be rebuilt in Ludwigspark, but that didn't happen. Instead, it disappeared into the basement of the town hall. The monument was given its current location at the Staden on September 1, 1957.

In its original form, the rider carried an oak leaf branch in his raised right hand and a lance in his left. These two insignia were lost, probably at some point during dismantling. The helmet was gold-plated for this.
