Tips

  • The association currently has 33 members. Some of them took on or were given house sponsorships and pursued medieval handicrafts in or in front of "their houses". In addition to the origin of the settlement, mining - represented by the replica of a shaft hoe, the visitor will also find service industries such as B. a bath and a tavern in the immediate vicinity of the bath house. The bakery, the weaving mill, the forge, the dyer's house and a carpentry shop almost complete the scope of services that were needed in the High Middle Ages. Thus, visitors do not experience a "dead" reconstruction site, but a largely lively high medieval settlement. All of this is the result of countless hours worked by our association members with considerable support from ABM and now one-euro job measures. So there are plenty of reasons to stop by and gain a lively insight into the history of our region. Source: mittelalterliche-bergstadt-bleiberg.de/%C3%BCber-den-verein

  • It is unknown whether the first ore discoveries were made on the staircase by chance or deliberate excavations, but thanks to the many archaeological finds, the time can be pinpointed precisely. In 1220 the first miners began to dig for ore on the hill between the Zschopau and Sachsenburg. Mostly lead gloss with a modest amount of silver was found. The entire area of the former mountain town of Blyberge covers more than 12 hectares. Around 180 pings, floor plans and the former city wall can still be seen today. Due to this large area, it is assumed that this was more of a city with around 1500 inhabitants. Not only did the miners and their families settle here, but also service workers and other trades. Excavation finds revealed that a kind of handicraft settlement was formed a bit away from the miners' settlement.
