The giant clef is part of an art trail around Barntrup. The idea was to install sculptures made of stone, metal or wood at selected locations that would tell a piece of Barntruper's history. Where the "treble clef" stands today, there used to be an old oak tree, the symbol of the local singing club "Liedertafel", who christened it "singing oak". However, since it had to be felled for safety reasons, the Barntrupers planted an oversized clef at this point in 2009. The design comes from Wolfgang Redecker.
