Another treasure that is not as magnificent as Miel Castle or Heimerzheim Castle, but still gives a nice impression from the bike path. Wonderful that there are so many great baroque buildings in this area.

The castle was the ancestral seat of the Lords of Morenhoven first mentioned in 1229 with Wilhelm (Wilhelm de Morinhovin). In 1299 the castle was donated to the Archbishops of Cologne. In 1345, the Archbishop of Cologne, Walram von Jülich, enfeoffed the knight Heinrich von Itter with the castle. List of architectural monuments 001

Morenhoven Castle is a moated castle on the southern edge of Morenhoven. It embodies the type of the two-part castle complex. Consisting of a front castle and the main castle, it is surrounded by wide ponds, which are fed by the Mühlenbach, a tributary of the Swist. While the manor house is still on an island, parts of the trench system in the area of the formerly used outer bailey are filled up. The privately owned facility cannot be viewed.
