Heimerzheim is located roughly in the middle of the triangle between Bonn, Euskirchen and Brühl. The immediate neighboring villages are Dünstekoven to the south, Neukirchen, Müggenhausen and Straßfeld to the west and Metternich to the north. Subsidence takes place along this fault, which is significantly accelerated by lignite mining and the associated swamping measures in the Rhenish lignite mining area. The Swistsprung is the cause of numerous structural damage and undevelopable properties in Heimerzheim.
