It is a great experience to see the bridge in action.

The Dr.-vom-Bruch bridge is a bascule bridge made of reinforced concrete. Built in the years 1926 to 1927 building is about 100 meters long and is a listed building. It leads over the river Leda and connects the Nessestraße on the peninsula Nesserland with the king road in the Leeraner city center. The bridge is named after the mayor of Leer Erich vom Bruch.

The construction of the bridge is connected to the relocation of the Galli cattle market.

This was held, like all other cattle markets, at the horse market and the Blinke until 1927. However, as more and more cattle were being offered at the cattle market, another solution was sought, as the cattle had to be driven through the entire city, which constantly caused heavy pollution.

The city administration therefore decided to relocate the market and build a new cattle market facility on the Nesse peninsula. This was used for the first time on March 2, 1927

and inaugurated on June 15, 1927. In connection with this construction work,

the bascule bridge connecting the Nesse peninsula to the weighing house and the town hall,

        today's "Dr.-vom-Bruch-Brücke", was also built.

The city put the construction work out to tender on February 4, 1926. On July 20, 1927, the topping-out ceremony for the bridge house was celebrated and on October 11, 1927, the completion of the structure, which was henceforth called the Town Hall Bridge.

In the spring of 1949, the city decided to rename the bridge "Dr.-vom-Bruch-Brücke".
