The sailing ship Alexander von Humboldt - also called "Alex" for short - is a steel German Bark, which was built in 1906 as a lightship under the name Reserve Sonderburg. In 1986 she was decommissioned as a lightship, rebuilt into a sailing ship and was from 1988 to October 2011 as a youth and training ship in use. As an advertising ship for "Beck's beer" she gained international attention. Today, the Alexander von Humboldt is used as a hotel and catering ship in Bremen.
