The historic bank promenade on the Weser in Bremen's old town is called Schlachte. In the official sense, the Schlachte is a street parallel to the bank that begins at the corner of Erste Schlachtpforte (at St. Martini Church) and ends about 660 meters further north-west at the Bremen Youth Hostel (House of Youth) at the corner of Kalkstraße. The Schlachte, originally Bremen's harbor square, has now been transformed into a gastronomic and beer garden mile.
