The foundation stone was laid in 1909. The crematorium's architect was William Müller. Due to the high groundwater level, the building had to be excavated down to the base of the furnace. Instead of the estimated total cost of 100,000 marks, the construction cost 110,000 marks. The construction of the funeral hall and its side halls cost 83,600 marks. The furnace cost 15,400 marks, the burial apparatus 3,000 marks, the enclosure 4,600 marks, and the interior furnishings 3,400 marks.
