Wonderful view of Hauenstein. A bench to relax and unwind. A memorial plaque behind the bank, in 1931 five young people were killed here in an explosion.

Below the memorial plaque are two benches with a beautiful view of Hauenstein (directly towards Christ the King Church).

"On November 9, 1931, a terrible disaster struck the village [of Hauenstein]. While working at the quarry to extract building materials for Christ the King Church, five men were killed in a tragic accident.
Long after a botched blasting operation, a stone wall about 15 meters long suddenly broke loose and thundered down the valley. Anyone in the way was swept away.
In memory of the five victims, a mosaic depicting five angels was created above the door of the portal [of Christ the King Church] leading toward the elementary school, intended to serve as a constant reminder of the deceased."

The memorial plaque bearing the names of all five men who died in the accident was installed by the Pfälzerwald-Verein Hauenstein in 2001 (the 70th anniversary of the accident).
