The place Beberbeck goes back to the year 1019, when it was still called Biberbach. Beberbeck has only 84 inhabitants, but is 9 km² in size.

The place Biberbach was once on the site of today's state domain, as well as a monastery courtyard of the Lippoldsberg monastery, which has already been hiked. While the place was abandoned, the monastery courtyard was converted into a horse farm. Landgrave Wilhelm IV kept a valuable herd of mares in the Tiergarten Sababurg, which he had created especially for this purpose. In order to offer the horses sufficient protection in winter, he continued to expand the monastery courtyard. Landgrave Carl finally shifted the breeding completely to the Beberbecker Hute. When the County of Hesse was dissolved, the stud became Prussian property and was one of the 5 main studs in Prussia. At times 216 mares were housed here. In 1928 the stud was closed and turned into state domain.

In 1823, Elector Wilhelm II of Hesse had his own hunting lodge built on the Beberbecker Hute, which is located directly opposite the state stud at the time. The castle has been a retirement home since 1929.

The domain is privately owned and entry is not permitted. Likewise, the castle park at the retirement home cannot be entered. Nevertheless, the complex is worth a visit in view of the important history. The long avenue of oak trees that leads from the domain over the Beberbecker Hute is also popular. By the way, some scenes of the film "Ostwind" were filmed here.
