Built in 1546/48 by the Reichsfeldmarschall Johann Hilchen von Lorch. Once the noblest seat of the Lorch noble family von Hilchen and the most important Renaissance building in the Middle Rhine Valley.

The original family home of the noble Lorch noble family of Hilchen was built around 1500 and was demolished in 1890. The then Imperial Field Marshal Johann Hilchen had the new house built shortly before his death between 1546 and 1548, but did not live to see its completion. His only daughter Maria inherited the Hilchenhaus and the family lived here for generations. Then years of neglect and decay followed. Between 2009 and 2014, the Hilchenhaus was restored and modernized as a historic monument. It is considered the most important Renaissance building in the Middle Rhine Valley.

The Hilchenhaus in Lorch am Rhein is an architectural gem and considered the most important Renaissance building in the Middle Rhine Valley. It was built between 1546 and 1548 by Imperial Field Marshal Johann Hilchen von Lorch—although he did not live to see its completion.
